   Big Bear Lake is really the place to be! This season come kick it up a notch! If you have a competitive spirit, this month has plenty of opportunity to put your skills to   the test.  Elevate yourself into what is in store this month.

BIG BEAR WINTER FESTIVAL
 
 Snow Shoe:
 
   El Nino has blanketed the beautiful mountain with snow and it is ready for you to enjoy! This February 27th and 28th enjoy Big Bear Lake’s Winter Festival.  An event that will take place during the festival is the Snow Shoe competition commencing at 8:00 a.m. This event is a snow only event. The Snow Shoe races will begin at the base of Snow Summit and will lead you into the National Forest Trails and finish back at the base of Snow Summit. Here you can compete in 5K, 10K and 14K races. This event is for all ages and for your family to enjoy! There will also be demos for the children on learning how to Show Shoe. Fat Tire Bike Race:

   Additionally, another snow only event taking place during the Big Bear Winter Festival is the Fat Bike Competition, commencing at 12:00 p.m.  This competition is the only competition in California for fat bikes! You will race into the beautiful nicely groomed forest by Snow Summit. You will have the opportunity to participate in 6, 10, 14, and 18-mile routes. These routes will be well marked; there will be aid stations support along with ski patrol and radio team safety. Fat Bikes Only! Be the fattest winner and bring your fat tire bikes (tires must have a minimum of 4” width). Rentals will be available. Both events are Snow Only Events so let’s embrace it while we have it! If you are competitive this is your month to not only participate but show your community support. Register and check into both the Fat Bike Big Bear and Snow Shoe Big Bear Competitions. Both will result in a barbecue, refreshments and beer for your enjoyment. Be sure to drink responsibly.


 5th ANNUAL POLAR PLUNGE

   Come up to Big Bear Lake and support the Special Olympics in their 5th Annual Polar Plunge!  This event will be held March 5, 2016, and is to help raise funds for the Special Olympics Inland Empire. In addition to meeting new friends, and earning incentives, you will also support the Special Olympics Inland Empire Region.  For just a minimum of $50.00 participants will chose how they will race into the icy waters of Big Bear Lake. You can run, walk, dance, hop or skip into the lake. Do you have what it takes for the good cause? Participants will race into the water neck deep or maybe just enough to wet your ankles. The goal is to raise $100,000! There is still is time to register to participate in the event. If plunging into the icy water is not really for you, you can still donate. Everyone’s support will be used to provide year round training and sports programs for children and adults with special disabilities in the Inland Empire.  The fun filled festivities will commence at 10:00 a.m. and the plunge will occur at Noon.
